LinkedIn lookalike audiences – should you use them?

What if you know your ideal customer and you are able to target more people like them? That’s what LinkedIn lookalike audiences do. LinkedIn lookalike audiences let you create audiences similar to your website visitors, contacts from your CRM, contacts who opened/submitted LinkedIn forms, etc.

How does it work?

LinkedIn algorithms match attributes of the members you provide to find LinkedIn members who share similar attributes. However, in my experience I found that LinkedIn’s algorithms are not great at matching audiences, and often results in lower quality audiences who may not be very relevant for your product or service.

However, does this mean that LinkedIn look alike audiences are not worth using? Not exactly.

You can use additional targeting criteria such as job titles, skills, company industries, etc. to further filter down the lookalike audiences to make it more relevant to your product/service.

To create a lookalike audience, you need to have a matched audience – either from website visits, uploaded contacts/company list, lead form opens, etc. Inside the campaign manager, you can use any of your matched audiences to create a new lookalike audience.
